Sean is the national leader of the digital forensics and incident response (DFIR) practice. His team supports global operations for cybercrime and data breach investigations, digital forensics and incident response services within the security and privacy risk consulting group. Sean has over 30 years of experience leading and conducting investigations, and serving as an expert witness throughout the U.S. and globally, in civil and criminal matters in both federal and state courts. He has provided testimony in reports, depositions and before triers of fact extensively in his career.

Sean is a former senior special agent and national program manager with the U.S. Customs Service, and a former consultant with a Big Four accounting firm. He has served as an instructor for digital investigations for the U.S. Department of the Treasury, the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Customs Service. Sean is frequently a featured speaker on digital forensics investigations and cybersecurity issues at legal conferences and trade association meetings.

Due to his extensive law enforcement and investigative experience, he frequently handles sensitive, complex matters, such as fraud and embezzlement, regulatory agency inquiries, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) investigations, investigations led by boards of directors, theft of intellectual property, executive employment disputes and other matters. In addition to his significant investigative background, Sean is a highly trained digital forensic expert who has handled a number of highly sensitive and complex investigations involving digital evidence.

Sean’s tenure as a senior special agent in the Office of Investigations for the U.S. Customs Service spanned over 12 years. In this role, he conducted investigations relating to illegal exportation of high technology and munitions, money laundering, commercial fraud perpetrated by multinational corporations and illegal importation of counterfeit pharmaceuticals.

Nicole Turnipseed Durkin has over 20 years of experience as a risk mitigation and forensic accounting professional. Nicole’s experience includes assisting audit teams, legal counsel and both private and publicly traded clients with fraud investigations, the identification and assessment of fraud risks and the development of procedures to effectively respond to and remediate fraud risks. In her current role, Nicole serves as the National Director of Audit Incident Response within RSM’s National Professional Practice Group. Nicole guides the firm’s audit teams and their clients in responding to instances of actual, alleged or suspected fraud or misconduct and violations of laws and regulations as well as non-routine regulatory investigations. Nicole serves as a liaison between the firm’s Audit teams and the client’s investigating counsel and forensic accountants to assist the audit team with the assessment and development of procedures in these high risk situations. Nicole also provides support to the firm’s leadership for significant audit risk events that may occur and serves as a liaison between leadership, General Counsel’s Office, Employee Relations, Corporate Communications, Cyber Incident Response Team and others responding to significant audit risk events affecting the firm.

Nicole has significant experience serving both privately held and publically traded clients of different sizes as well as a diverse range of industry experience including consumer and industrial products, financial services, healthcare, media, not-for-profit and real estate entities, as well as private equity portfolio companies. Nicole has provided a range of services including conducting internal investigations, assessing financial statement auditing procedures, managing internal audit and compliance engagements, and performing comprehensive background investigations. She has led and participated in investigations of financial and accounting irregularities and fraud, corruption, vendor fraud, employee embezzlement, expense reporting fraud, procurement fraud and bankruptcy fraud.
