David A. Paterson

In 2002, Paterson became the minority leader of the New York State Senate. In 2004, he became the first blind person to address the Democratic National Convention. He was elected lieutenant governor of New York on January 1, 2007. Eliot Spitzer, the elected governor of New York, resigned his position in the wake of a scandal in 2008, and Paterson was sworn in as governor in March, 2008. He ran for a full-term as governor in 2010, but bowed out of the race. Since leaving office, he has been a radio talk show host and chairman of the New York Democratic Party from 2014 to 2015.
