He joined DuPont Co. in 1957, holding a variety of engineering, manufacturing, and management positions until retiring as chairman and CEO in 1997. He has served on the boards of the New York Stock Exchange, Citigroup Inc., IBM Corp., and Apple Computer Inc., where he was instrumental in bringing Steve Jobs back to Apple.
