Wanda Wallace's Directors & Boards article, "Auditor Rotation: A Bad Governance Idea," has been submitted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce as part of a commentary briefing package on the proposed mandatory auditor rotation rules adopted by the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight. The article was published in the Spring 2004 issue of the journal and also in the June issue of the e-Briefing newsletter.

Directors & Boards author Robert Mittelstaedt, who has been with the Wharton School since 1973 and served as its vice dean and director of executive education since 1990, has been named dean of the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University. He assumed his new position at the end of June. He co-founded the Wharton/Spencer Stuart Directors' Institute.

Directors & Boards Editor James Kristie addressed the annual conference of the American Society of Business Publication Editors, held June 24-25, on the topic of "Managing Editorial Advisory boards."

Directors & Boards Third Quarter issue, which mails in July, features the first in a series of Directors Guides, this one focused on what CEOs and directors need to know about compliance software. What questions should you be asking of your executive and IT team when it comes to compliance software? How can you measure ROI? The Directors Guide to Compliance Software will feature a handy checklist which you can use in your next board meeting, and a mini-directory of compliance software vendors.

Directors & Boards' Jim Kristie is quoted in an article in the Des Moines Register on splitting the roles of CEO and Chairman. See the complete article here.

Gary Sutton, a longtime CEO, board member, and specialist in turning around troubled companies, has been named a regular columnist for Directors & Boards, the lead journal in corporate governance now celebrating its 28th year of publication.

Sutton, 61, has headed a number of public and private companies in his career as an expert in business startups and rescues. He ran aerospace manufacturing, retail advertising, online data storage, printing, software, and satellite communications businesses, as well as a college and a waste management operation.

He is the author of The Six-Month Fix: Adventures in Rescuing Failing Companies, published in 2002 by John Wiley & Sons. Plaudits that greeted his book included "powerful," "hard-hitting, practical thrusts," and "uncommon, in-your-face thinking."

Sutton's inaugural column will appear in the Summer issue, to be published in mid-July. Promising a continuation of the candid counsel offered in his feature article, his topic will be "The Danger of Overqualified Directors."

Sutton replaces Dr. Thomas Horton, one of the country's preeminent experts in corporate governance, who died last year. Horton served for much of his career as chairman and CEO of the American Management Association and had been a columnist for Directors & Boards since 1998.

D&B Author Takes On Iraq: On May 6, 2003, President Bush announced the appointment of Ambassador L. Paul Bremer III as Presidential Envoy to Iraq. As the top civilian administrator, he is overseeing the country's reconstruction efforts. Prior to this appointment, Bremer had been serving as CEO of the Crisis Consulting Practice of Marsh Inc., the world's leading risk and insurance services firm. In that capacity, he authored a comprehensive advisory on crisis management planning for a cover story in the Winter 2002 edition of Directors & Boards. That article appeared as an "Article of the Week" on the D&B Web site in May and can be found in the Article Archives under Crisis Management.

Stephen J. Weiss has been selected by his peers to be included in the 2003-2004 compendium of The Best Lawyers in America. Weiss's "D&O Insurance Update" column appears in every issue of Directors & Boards. His advisory alone is worth the price of a subscription: He is an expert in negotiating D&O coverage and his every column is chock full of valuable tips and tactics. When not writing for D&B, he is a partner in the Washington, D.C., office of Holland & Knight LLP and is one of the nation's leading authorities on D&O insurance and employment practices liability insurance. His "D&O Insurance Update" column first appeared in the Fall 1998 edition, and his columns can be found under D&O Insurance in the Article Archives: http://www.bestlawyers.com
